Girl dies in bee attack during flower show at Lalbagh

Bengaluru, Aug 19, 2015, DHNS: In a freak incident, a seven-year-old girl died after she was stung by a swarm of bees at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens on Saturday. The incident occurred when she had gone there, with her parents, for the Independence Day flower show.

Vaishnavi.The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi, a resident of Padmanabhanagar and class two student of a private school. On August 15, Vaishnavi, along with her father Guruprasad a software engineer and mother Suguna, a housewife, went to Lalbagh to witness the flower show.

Around 12 pm, the father and daughter went near Kempe Gowda tower in Lalbagh, where there was not much crowd. Vaishnavi was playing near a tree and suddenly she started screaming. Guruprasad found that she was attacked by a swarm of bees. He went and tried to cover her and in the process he too was stung by the bees. They could not run away as hundreds of bees surrounded them and they were standing under the tree where there was a huge bee hive, said the police.

Suguna alerted the passersby, who rushed to the scene and managed to shoo away the bees. Vaishnavi was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctors told the parents that she was stung by many bees and the condition was critical. Vaishnavi failed to respond to treatment and succumbed to her wounds, added police.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in Siddapura police station.
