Bengaluru, April 28, 2024: The Karnataka Congress government, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into allegations implicating Prajwal Revanna, a JD(S) MP from Hassan and the grandson of H D Deve Gowda, in a sex scandal.
Revanna is accused of sexually exploiting numerous women, with purported videos recorded on his cellphone and subsequently disseminated. Karnataka’s Home Minister, Dr G Parameshwara, affirmed the formation of the SIT, assuring an unbiased investigation.
"The SIT, led by a senior police officer, will determine the necessary course of action. If the accused has indeed fled the country, the SIT will pursue measures to bring him back. Our role is to ensure the investigation proceeds independently," Dr Parameshwara emphasized.
Key JD(S) figures, including Revanna’s uncle H D Kumaraswamy and core committee chairman G T Deve Gowda, refrained from defending him, expressing support for punitive action if the SIT finds him culpable.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Revanna has allegedly fled to Frankfurt, Germany, from Bengaluru.
The circulation of ’obscene videos’ on social media, just days before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, triggered widespread concern.
In a statement on ’X’ platform, the Karnataka CM announced the formation of the SIT in response to requests, citing the gravity of the situation where women appeared to be victimized.
Revanna, responding to the allegations, filed a FIR asserting that the videos were manipulated to defame him and influence voters negatively.
The state women’s panel chairperson had earlier urged CM Siddaramaiah to initiate an SIT probe into the scandalous clips involving the JD(S) MP, prompting the government’s decisive action.
