Govt sounds terror alert for Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata

New Delhi, March 9: New terror alerts have been issued across three metros following revelations by arrested Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Salman. He confessed that the terror network was planning to launch fresh attacks on Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.

Arrested Indian Mujahideen operative Salman has revealed that IM planned to strike major cities in India during his interrogation to Delhi Police.

Salman Ahmed alias Chhotu the youngest IM operative arrested so far is believed to be part of the group that carried out blasts in Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Gorakhpur and Varanasi between 2007 and 2008.

Sources in the Home Ministry have revealed that three major metro cities are on the radar of terrorist groups. Uttar Pradesh Police has revealed that the Indian Mujahideen planned to strike major cities of India. The revelation has lead the Ministry to issue fresh alerts asking agencies to beef up security in all three states.

Sources say Salman travelled to Dubai, Karachi and Nepal and was in regular touch with Riyaz Bhatkal, the man, who believed to be the head on Indian Mujahideen.

Bhtakal is also suspected to be the mastermind of the Pune blast and investigators believe Salman could lead them to the conspirators of the German Bakery bomb blast.

Salman will now be interrogated and his confessions matched with another arrested IM operative Shehzad to piece together the terror plan that Indian Mujahideen was allegedly hatching

Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Force, the agency responsible for safeguarding airports and atomic installations also revealed that they are aware of the new threats from terrorist groups and are innovating accordingly.

"There is a view that terrorists may not indulge in peak hour hijack but instead may attack airports from city side. Accordingly, we are beefing up security especially in Mumbai and Delhi airports, said Additonal DG of CISF M L baali.

The recent arrest of two British nationals for spying over planes flying in and out of Delhi airport has exposed the vulnerability of these installations...and with the latest inputs threatening vital installations in major cities of the country.
