Gowda seeks cooperation of lawyers, media to resolve impasse

Mangaloretoday/ DHNS

Shimoga, March 10:  With the confrontation among lawyers, mediapersons and police over the violence in Bangalore city civil court complex continuing, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today called for restraint and sought their cooperation for an amicable settlement to the issue.

CM seeks restrain

The advocates are continuing their indefinite boycott of courts across the state insisting that the government accept their demands for action against police officials for "assaulting" lawyers during the violence on March 2 and media’s "one-sided" reports against them.

Gowda urged lawyers and mediapersons to exercise restraint and introspect on their responsibilities and solve the impasse amicably.

Scores of people, including 54 police personnel, were injured when the advocates let loose violence at the city civil court complex attacking mediapersons.

He said the upcoming Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll and presentation of his maiden budget were two of his immediate challenges and expressed optimism of presenting the budget on March 21 without any hindrance.

Gowda’s remarks come in the backdrop of continued pressure mounted by his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa to regain the chief ministerial post.
