Gurugram, Feb 22, 2023: Fearing Covid-19, a woman had locked herself along with her 10-year-old son inside their Gurugram home for three years. The police rescued the mother and child on Tuesday after the woman’s husband, whom she had shunted out, filed a complaint.
The 35-year-old woman’s husband claimed that she was mentally unstable. After being taken out of the closed space, both the child and the mother were admitted to a hospital.
The police said that the woman threatened to kill the child if the authorities attempted to evacuate them. The police managed to take them out of the house with the assistance of the Child Welfare Team.
Officials of the district administration were stunned to see the heap of garbage inside the room. "There was garbage of three years all around the room," a Child Welfare Team official said.
The woman’s husband had filed a complaint earlier but it was dismissed citing that it was a familial matter. However, a raid conducted by the district administration led to the release of the mother and her child.
Initial investigation has revealed that during the first Covid-19 wave, the family had remained indoors throughout. But prior to the second wave, the woman allegedly blocked her husband’s entry to the house. She locked the house when her husband had stepped out for work. Following this, the husband rented another room in Chakkarpur and has been living there for the last one-and-a-half years.
"At first, the police called it a domestic matter. After six months, the distressed husband appealed to the police again and a police officer, posted at the Chakkarpur Police Station, took the help of the district administration to rescue them," a local resident said.
