Bengaluru, May 28, 2024: Bhavani Revanna, wife of Karnataka MLA HD Revanna, on Monday applied for anticipatory bail fearing arrest in connection with a kidnapping case linked to her husband and son, Prajwal.

Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former minister HD Revanna, along with six others, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping of a woman. The case is linked to allegations of sexual abuse against his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna.

HD Revanna is currently out on bail in this case.

Bhavani approached the court after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) issued a notice for her to join the inquiry. The notice was based on statements from an already arrested accused.

Bhavani submitted the anticipatory bail application to a sessions court in Bengaluru, and the hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday. The court has instructed the SIT to file its objections by then.

The case was registered following a complaint by the woman’s son, who alleged that his mother was sexually abused by Prajwal. After the sexual harassment allegations against Prajwal stirred a massive row in April, the woman was allegedly abducted to prevent her from testifying against the JD(S) MP, according to police.

Bhavani’s name was mentioned in the complaint.

The Karnataka government formed an SIT on April 29 after multiple videos of Prajwal sexually abusing women emerged. On May 3, the SIT arrested HD Revanna’s confidant, Sathish Babanna, and subsequently rescued the woman allegedly from a farmhouse in Mysuru on May 4. Hours later, HD Revanna was arrested from his father and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s residence in Bengaluru.

Notably, this development comes as Prajwal Revanna, who left the country after the allegations emerged, said he will be joining the probe on May 31 and will cooperate with the police.
