About a dozen vehicles involved in mining work have been buried in the landslide. Rescue work is ongoing and police are at the spot.

" A landslide at a mining site in Bhiwani occurred at around 9:30 am today. Adequate rescue measures were taken as soon as the administration received information. Around 10-12 vehicles and 15-20 persons were trapped in the landslide. We’ve asked for NDRF teams, so the rescue operation will continue tonight," Bhiwani Deputy Commissioner Rippudaman Singh Dhillon told reporters on Saturday evening.

Haryana Agriculture Minister JP Dalal and Bhiwani SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat are also at the scene to oversee relief work.

"Four Poklane and four dumpers and other machines are buried in the rubble," SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat confirmed to India Today.

"Some people have died. I cannot provide the exact figures as of now. A team of doctors has arrived. We will try to save as many people as possible," said Minister JP Dalal.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar took to Twitter to express his sorrow at the mishap and said he is monitoring the situation."I am in constant touch with the local administration to ensure swift rescue operations and immediate assistance to the injured," CM Khattar said in a tweet.

Largescale mining operations are carried out in the hills of Khanak and Dadam in Bhiwani. Two months ago, mining work was banned due to rising pollution levels.

On Thursday, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) allowed mining operations to resume in the area and work began the next day.

Due to the closure of the mines for two months, there was a shortage of building materials. It is speculated that in order to overcome this shortage, explosions were set off, which triggered the landslide.
