While the northern suburbs continued to be under a dry spell, heavy rainfall lashed parts of south Mumbai and south-central suburbs of the city.

Rail and road traffic were hit due to water logging in the low lying areas. However, air traffic remained unaffected.

Residents of Hindmata locality and Parel were seen wading through knee-deep water and buses and taxis slowed down their pace to avoid accidents.

"Traffic diversions have been created for vehicles and people are advised to avoid water-logged areas in Hindmata and Parel," an official said.

Although the weather department registered rainfall of only 0.3 mm at Colaba, sources said that parts of south Mumbai saw around 40 mm of rainfall.

Some trains had to be slowed down due to poor visibility and water-logging on the tracks.

"Although no train services have been cancelled, we have slowed down the trains as a precaution. The trains are now delayed by 10-15 minutes," a Central Railway spokesperson said.

Colaba recorded 947 mm rainfall in June while Santa Cruz recorded 712 mm.

Heavy rainfall was also recorded in various parts of Maharastra including Thane, Nandurbar, Latur and Nanded districts.
