Honnavar cow slaughter case: Police offer ₹50,000 reward for information on key accused

Uttara Kannada, January 27, 2025: In a shocking incident in Salkodu village of Honnavar taluk, miscreants slaughtered a pregnant cow, severing its head and limbs, and reportedly used the meat for transportation. The Uttara Kannada District Superintendent of Police (SP), M. Narayana, announced a reward of ₹50,000 for anyone providing information leading to the capture of the key accused, Wasim and Mujamil, who remain absconding.

Speaking to reporters at the District Office in Karwar, SP Narayana detailed the progress of the investigation. He revealed that two individuals have already been arrested in connection with the case. During the operation, one of the accused attacked the police while offering to show the location where the weapon used in the slaughter was hidden. In self-defense, the police had to shoot him in the leg. The arrested individual has been remanded to judicial custody.

The incident came to light after a cow grazing in Kondakuli village was slaughtered, and its meat was allegedly used in a wedding feast in Bhatkal. This lead proved crucial in advancing the investigation, the SP stated.

Four Accused Identified

The investigation revealed that the four individuals involved in the crime were not from the same community. Two of the accused belong to the Hindu community and reportedly assisted in the slaughter.

Initially, five suspects were taken into custody for questioning. The SP confirmed that the suspects were not all from the same religion and that the meat of the pregnant cow had indeed been used for a wedding celebration. To trace the absconding accused, Wasim and Mujamil, a special team has been constituted.

The police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information about the whereabouts of the accused and have assured that their identity will be kept confidential.
