Honour killing suspected: 3 of Dalit family shotdead in Sonepat

Rohtak, Nov 19, 2016: Three members of a Dalit family were killed and two hospitalised after unidentified assailants shot at them in Sonepat’s Kuldeep Nagar colony on Saturday morning.

Dalit The deceased were identified as Pradeep Kumar, his mother Sunita and father Suresh Kumar. His brother Suraj and another family member were hospitalised with bullet wounds. Their condition is stable.

Police suspect honour killing behind the murder.

Pradeep had married a woman from an upper caste a year ago. “We have registered a case against unidentified assailants but we suspect that he (Pradeep) could have been murdered by the girl’s family,” Kharkhoda police station in-charge Karambir Singh said.

Pradeep’s wife was in labour and admitted to a hospital when the incident occurred at 8am.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem, while the two injured family members have been admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, 40km from Kharkhoda.
