Palghar, Mar 05, 2019 : A large quantity of detonators and explosives were seized from Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Monday. According to a tweet by ANI, the explosives were found in a house in Palghar when police was conducting a search in the area after a tip-off.
ASP Palghar BT Dhandat was quoted saying that during the search in the house in Palghar, they recovered 183 gelatin sticks, 103 electronic detonators, 345 non-electronic detonators and 21 safety fuse. According to reports, the couple of the house, where the explosives were found, have been identified as Tukaram and Bhima Hadan. On interrogation, they told the Police that they had bought the detonators for fishing and mining purposes, Yahoonews reported.
According to reports, the Palghar police conducted a raid on the banks of Vaitarna river in Chandip village of the district’s Vasai taluka on Sunday and seized the explosives kept in a denim bag. Police informed that several people at the raided spot were engaged in illegal sand mining and police also confiscated an excavator and a truck. Reports inform that two people have been arrested in connection with the case. The detonators and explosives are primarily meant for under-water blasting and illegal sand mining. According to reports, the incident triggered widespread panic. According to reports, a case has been registered against the owner of the truck and excavator under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Explosives Act for illegal sand mining and using explosives.
