II PU results best in over 11 years

Bengaluru, , May 19, 2015, DHNS: The State witnessed a pass percentage of 60.54 in the 2015 II PU exams, the highest in over 11 years. This follows the SSLC exam results that saw an all-time high pass percentage.

puThe results for the exams held in March was announced by the Department of Pre University Education (DPUE) here on Monday.

DPUE Director Sushama Godbole said that 6,10,323 students had appeared for the exam, of which 4.96 lakh candidates were freshers, 31,972 repeaters and 82,093 were external candidates. Compared to 2014, the results this time have gone up by only about 0.7 per cent. There has also been a dip in the number of students who appeared for the exam.

Gowthami P of MES PU College of Arts, Commerce and Science topped the science stream (PCMB) by securing 595 marks out of 600.  Rashmitha of Sharada PU College in Dakshina Kannada and Veena S Reddy of Jain College, Bengaluru, have topped the commerce stream with an overall score of 593.

Hitankshi M Trivedi from Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, and Netravathi M B from Indu PU College in Kottur, Ballari district, have topped the Arts stream by securing 579 marks. The Commerce and Arts students wrote the exams under the new syllabus, on a par with the NCERT curriculum, which was introduced by the State government from the 2014-15 academic year.

Udupi (92.32 per cent), Uttara Karnataka (81.19 per cent) and Kodagu (79.84 per cent) are in the second, third and fourth spots respectively.

With a pass percentage of 73.04, Bengaluru South stood seventh followed by Bengaluru North which saw 72.80 per cent results.

The pass percentage was 63.68 in government PU college, 63.91 in corporation colleges and 73.23 in unaided PU colleges.

The results in aided PU colleges and bifurcated PU colleges are 66.31 per cent and 72.26 per cent respectively. The pass percentage among girls is 68.24 per cent and for boys it is 53.09 per cent.

Colleges in rural areas have secured a pass percentage of 61.52, while the results in urban areas stood at 60.23 per cent.

Like the previous year, Dakshina Kannada district topped the State with a pass percentage of 93.09 per cent. The pass percentage last year was 86.04.
