Hangal , Feb 18: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday promised that he would provide funds to the tune of Rs 500 crore to the mutts and the education institutions run by them if his KJP is voted to power during the ensuing Assembly elections.
He was speaking at the State-level convention of Kunchitigas and 24th Vijayaraya Sangameshwara Jayanthi programme in Hangal on Sunday.
He said that if brought to power, the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) government would give priority for education sector. There were also plans to encourage dairy farming to ensure economic and political growth of women. The seers of the mutts dedicate their lives to the welfare of the society and extending a helping hand to them to bring about social changes is not wrong, Yeddyurappa said.
Deputy leader of the Opposition in the Assembly T B Jayachandra, who inaugurated the programme, stated that the Kunchitiga community has its own traditional importance.
