India logs 1.2 lakh new Covid-19 cases, lowest in 58 days; positivity rate dips to 5.78%

New Delhi, Jun 05, 2021:       India’s Covid-19 tally continued to show a downward trend as the country registered 1,20,529 lakh new virus cases on Saturday, its lowest in the last 58 days. The active caseload further decreased to 15,55,248, down by 80,745 cases in the last 24 hours.

On the recovery front, at least 2.67 crore people have recovered from the Covid-19 infection across the country so far, with 1,97,894 people recovering during the last 24 hours. Now, India has reported more daily recoveries than new cases for 23 consecutive days.

So far, 22.78 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 22,651 cases, followed by Kerala with 16,229 cases, Karnataka with 16,068 cases, Maharashtra with 14,152 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 10,413 cases. 65.96% of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 18.79% of the new cases.

Maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (1,377), followed by Tamil Nadu with 463 daily deaths.
