New Delhi, Jan 08, 2022: India registered 1,41,986 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 21.3 per cent higher than yesterday, according to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry.
The total caseload in the country stands at 3,53,68,372.
Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 40,925 cases, followed by West Bengal with 18,213 cases, Delhi with 17,335 cases, Tamil Nadu with 8,981 cases and Karnataka with 8,449 cases.
These five states account for 66.14 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 28.82 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases.
In the last 24 hours, 285 Covid-related deaths were reported in the country, increasing the total reported death count to 4,83,463.
Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (189), followed by Maharashtra with 20 daily deaths.
India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.3 per cent. A total of 40,895 patients with Covid-19 recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,44,12,740 across the country.
India’s active Covid-19 caseload stands at 4,72,169. In the last 24 hours, active Covid-19 cases increased by 1,00,806.
India has administered a total of 90,59,360 doses of Covid-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,50,61,92,903.
A total of 15,29,948 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, India reported 64 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the total caseload of Omicron in India has risen to 3,071, of which 1,203 have recovered.
