India logs 18,833 new Covid cases; active cases decline to 2.46 lakh, lowest in over 200 days

New Delhi, Oct 06, 2021: India registered 18,833 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 2.7 per cent higher than the number reported on Tuesday. With fresh cases, the country’s overall caseload has mounted to 3,38,71,881, showed the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare early Wednesday.

The top five states which registered the maximum number of Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 9,735 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 2,401 cases, Mizoram with 1,471 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,449 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 671 cases.As many as 83.5 per cent of the new cases were reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 51.69 per cent of the new cases.

Meanwhile, 278 more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s toll to 4,49,538. The maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (151), followed by Maharashtra with 39 daily deaths.

As of Wednesday morning, India’s recovery rate stands at 97.94 per cent even as a total of 24,770 patients recovered from the Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours.

Also, India’s active caseload declined by 6,215 in the last 24 hours. The overall active cases tally stands at 2,46,687, the lowest in 203 days.India has administered a total of 59,48,360 doses in the last 24 hours, bringing the total tally of doses administered to 92,17,65,405.Earlier on Tuesday, India reported 18,346 new Covid cases in 24 hours, which was the lowest in 209 days.
