New Delhi, Mar 30, 2023: In the highest single-day spike in nearly six months, India recorded 3,016 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The country also registered 14 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours, of which eight were old cases reconciled by Kerala.
The last time the country saw a higher rise in counts was on October 2 last year. A total of 3,375 cases were recorded on October 2, 2022.
The Union health ministry data updated on Thursday showed there were 13,509 active cases in the country. It pegged the weekly positivity rate at 1.71 per cent.
India recorded 2,151 new Covid-19 cases, according to health ministry data on Wednesday. So, Thursday’s data show that daily cases have surged by 40 per cent.
With the 14 deaths, the country’s Covid-19 toll climbed to 5,30,862.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,68,321, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.
Three Covid-related deaths were reported in Maharashtra, two in Delhi and one reported by Himachal Pradesh in a span of 24 hours and eight earlier deaths reconciled by Kerala.
Amid a spike in Covid-19 cases in the national capital, Delhi’s Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has called for an emergency review meeting on Thursday.
The daily positivity was recorded at 2.73 per cent, as per the latest health ministry data. Meanwhile, the national Covid recovery rate has been recorded at 98.78 per cent.
As per the ministry’s website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide coronavirus vaccination drive.
