India logs 35,178 fresh Covid-19 cases, 440 fatalities in 24 hours

New Delhi, Aug 18, 2021: India recorded 35,178 fresh cases and 440 fatalities due to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said in its latest announcement.

As of 8 am on Wednesday, India’s active caseload touched 3,69,846. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 12,101, according to the health ministry.

The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 21,613 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 4,408 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,804 cases, Karnataka with 1,298 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 1,063 cases.

85.81 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 61.44 per cent of the fresh cases.

The maximum casualties due to the viral infection were reported in Kerala (127), followed by Maharashtra with 116 daily deaths.

With this, India’s recovery rate touched 97.51 per cent.

A total of 36,830 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which pushed the total recoveries to 3,14,48,754 across the country.

India has administered a total of 88,13,919 doses in the last 24 hours. With this, the total tally of doses administered touched 55,47,30,609.

A total of 17,97,559 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
