India map distorted at Belagavi Congress meet? BJP launches attack

Mangalore Today News Network

Belagavi, December 26, 2024: The Congress is conducting a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Karnataka’s Belagavi. The two-day event, starting today, assumes more significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Belgaum session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi and top Congress brass like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are in attendance.

However, the event has come under BJP fire, with the saffron party alleging that the Karnataka Congress showed ’utter disrespect’ for India’s ’sovereignty’ by "displaying a distorted map at their Belagavi event, portraying Kashmir as part of Pakistan."

Map disorted

"All this just to appease their vote bank. This is shameful!," the state BJP page said on X.

Other BJP leaders latched on to the issue with MP Sudhanshu Trivedi saying, "This clearly shows Congress’ alliance with the forces that are dividing India into parts. This map (on the banner) clearly depicts this. Congress has distorted India’s map many times before as well."

Meanwhile, Shehzad Poonawalla said, "Once again Congress sings Pakistan tune," adding the party, "shows disrespect for India’s unity & sovereignty by displaying a distorted map at their Belagavi event, portraying Kashmir as part of Pakistan."

"They do not believe in Bharat Jodo or Sanvidhan but Bharat Todo," he said.

"Meeting Ilhan Omar , supporting 370, showing JK as part of Pakistan, Sonia Gandhi co president of an organisation that supports Kashmir being separated from I.N.D.I.A... not a sanyog but a vote bank ka udyog," Poonawalla further added.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Thursday said it would re-dedicate itself to protect, preserve, and promote Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy which is under "systematic assault by the ideological brotherhood that fought him bitterly".

The opposition party has asserted that the "insult" to B R Ambedkar by Home Minister Amit Shah will be taken up for deliberation at Belagavi and that there will be a "strong follow-up" on the issue.

At 2:30 pm on December 26, the ’Nav Satyagrah Baithak’ will commence at Mahatma Gandhi Nagar and on December 27, the ’Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem, Jai Samvidhan’ rally will be held in Belagavi at 11:30 am.
