India records over 500 Covid-19 deaths, 36,401 new cases in 24 hours

New Delhi, Aug 19, 2021: India registered 36,401 fresh Covid-19 cases and 513 deaths due to the viral infection in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry.

The maximum fatalities due to Covid-19 were reported in Kerala with 179 daily deaths, followed by Maharashtra with 158.

The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 21,427 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 5,132 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,797 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,433 cases and Karnataka with 1,365 cases.

85.59 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 58.86 per cent of the new cases.

With this, India’s recovery rate stood at 97.53 per cent.

A total of 39,157 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recoveries to 3,15,25,080 across the country.

A total of 18,73,757 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

As of 8 am on Thursday, India’s active caseload stood at 3,64,129. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 3,286, the health ministry said.

India has administered a total of 56,36,336 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 56,64,88,433.
