New Delhi, April 15, 2023: India reported 10,753 new Covid cases and 27 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the Union health ministry. The active caseload stood at 53,720.
The current rise in Covid cases is being driven by XBB.1.16, which is a sub-variant of Omicron. While the daily positivity rate touched 6.78%, the weekly positivity rate was at 4.49%.
While Omicron and its sub-lineages continue to be the dominant variant, most of the assigned variants have little or no significant transmissibility, disease severity, or immune escape.
India reported 11,109 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, the highest in over seven months, according to the Union Health Ministry. The active caseload in the country stood at 49,622.
