India reports 61,408 fresh cases, 57,468 recoveries; tally surges past 31 lakh

New Delhi,  Aug 24, 2020: India has reported 61,408 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, 57,468 recoveries and 836 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the total coronavirus tally has mounted to 31,06,349 including 23,38,036 cured/discharged/migrated cases & 57,542 deaths, according to the Union Ministry of Health.

 

Staff members of a hospital here in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday foiled the bid of a 40-year-old coronavirus patient to commit suicide by jumping off the third floor of the facility, police said.

The patient got down from the third floor window onto the open slab and was about to jump when some staff members rushed to him and held him back, said Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital Dean Dr P K Kasar.

The patient is suffering from some mental issues according to his family members, he said.

Telangana has reported 1,842 new coronavirus cases and 6 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the state’s Covid-19 tally to 1,06,091. The state has reported 761 deaths so far.
