New Delhi, Jun 17, 2021: India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 2,97,00,313 with 67,208 new infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have crossed 2.84 crores, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.
The death count increased to 3,81,903 with 2,330 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Meanwhile, the pilot launch of Russian Covid vaccine Sputnik V, which was initiated in Hyderabad, has now been extended to nine other cities. These cities are Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Baddi, Kolhapur and Miryalaguda.
However, people cannot register for the Russian vaccine through the CoWIN portal yet and that facility will be available only when it is commercially launched, local distribution partner Dr Reddy’s said in a statement. The statement added that the pilot launch is in its final leg and necessary arrangements are being made to ensure availability of both doses.
