New Delhi, Jun 22, 2021: India reported 42,640 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours on Tuesday. For the first time in 91 days, the country has recorded less than 50,000 daily cases.
In the last 24 hours, the five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 7,449 cases, Tamil Nadu with 7,427 cases, Maharashtra with 6,270 cases, Karnataka with 4,867 cases and Odisha with 3,031 cases.
Nearly 70 per cent of the fresh cases are from these five states with 17.47 per cent from Kerala alone.
India also reported 1,167 Covid deaths in 24 hours on Tuesday. Maharashtra reported the maximum casualties at 352, followed by Tamil Nadu with 189 daily deaths.
Meanwhile, the daily recoveries in the country continued to outnumber the daily spike in cases for the 40th consecutive day. With 81,839 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours, India’s total recoveries now stands at 2,89,26,038. The recovery rate has risen to 96.49 per cent.
The active caseload in India has declined by 40,366 cases to 6,62,521. This figure is less than 7 lakh after 79 days.
The weekly positivity rate in the country has remained below 5 per cent at 3.21 per cent and the daily positivity rate is 2.56 per cent. It has been less than 5 per cent for 15 consecutive days.
A total of 16,64,360 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
