New Delhi, Aug 28, 2021: India recorded 46,759 fresh cases of coronavirus on Saturday, the daily caseload crossing 40,000-mark for the third day in a row, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data.Five states accounted for 89.42 per cent of the total cases, with Kerala contributing 32,801 cases in the past 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra with 4,654 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,542 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,512 cases and Karnataka with 1,301 cases.
India saw 509 people succumb to the infection in the past 24 hours. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (179), followed by Maharashtra with 170 deaths.
A total of 31,374 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking India’s recovery rate to 97.56 per cent. The total recoveries stand at 3,18,52,802 across the country.
In the last 24 hours, active cases increased by 14,876, taking the active caseload to 3,59,775.
Meanwhile, India achieved a historic milestone and administered over one crore jabs of Covid-19 on Friday. A total of 1,03,35,290 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 62,29,89,134.
