India sees 2,503 fresh Covid-19 cases, lowest in nearly two years

New Delhi, Mar 14, 2022: India on Monday reported 2,503 new Covid-19 cases and 27 deaths over the previous 24 hours. This brought the total number of cases in the country to 4,29,93,494. The total reported fatalities due to Covid-19 now stands at 5,15,877.

 

The number of active cases stands at 36,168 with a 98.72% recovery rate. The number of recoveries over the last 24 hours is 4,377 totaling 4,24,41,449 recoveries.

The number of vaccinations administered under the nationwide vaccination drive stands at 1,80,19,45,779.

Maharashtra takes up the top spot for the highest number of confirmed cases recorded in the country, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

A study conducted by IIT Kanpur says there is a possibility that the fourth wave in India will occur in June. According to the researchers, the severity itself will rely on the nature of the variant and the Covid vaccination status across the country.

The World Health Organisation has made conflicting statements on the effectiveness of booster shots. In a most recent statement, WHO has said that its expert group concluded that immunization with authorized Covid-19 vaccines provides high levels of protection against severe disease and death.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished former US President Barack Obama a speedy recovery after the latter tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.
