Mangaloretoday/DHNS

Belgaum, Mar 4, 2013: Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today directed police to invoke the Goondas Act against three persons allegedly involved in the gangrape of a 17-year-old college student last week.

J ShettarShettar, who visited the hospital where the victim is being treated, told her family that the government would bear her treatment expenses and directed police to book the three men under the Goondas Act.

Three persons have been arrested for alleged raping and attacking the girl at Itnal village in the district on Feb 26 and later dumping her in an abandoned well. Passers by who heard her cries had informed police.

This is the second case of gangrape in which the state has slapped provisions of the Goondas Act against rapists after the incident involving a Nepali law college student in Bangalore in October 2012.

Six persons have been arrested and detained under the Goondas act in that case.
