Bengaluru, Dec 06, 2022: An Iranian national was among 27 people arrested across multiple states by the Narcotics Control Bureau for smuggling and selling banned narcotics worth approximately Rs 15 lakh. Officials seized drugs including LSD, cocaine, hashish, and Psilocybin mushrooms, among others, in connection with this.
The NCB Bangalore undertook controlled delivery operations and managed to arrest the receiver and the persons involved in financing, transporting and distributing the drugs, according to a press release.
The press release, issued by the NCB stated, “A common modus operandi being used in all these cases is that the drugs were booked through darknet markets and in some closed Telegram and WhatsApp groups.”
“The payments were made using cryptocurrency and other online payment channels. The arrested people belong to the age group of 20-25 years only and are mostly students and art/software professionals. Most of the arrested persons are well educated and belong to different cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi etc., who are settled in Bangalore for the purpose of studying and working in reputed companies,” further read the release.
In one of the cases, the supplier of the drugs was operating from Siliguri, West Bengal and distributing the drug through a local courier company to various destinations across the country, said the press release.
Those arrested include individuals from Bengaluru, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Mizoram, Haryana, Delhi, Kolkata, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, apart from the Iranian national.
