Janardhana Reddy to be produced in Bangalore court today

Bangalore, Mar 1, 2012: Travelling in a mini bus accompanied by two sub inspectors and eight constables, tainted mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy is scheduled to arrive in the City early Friday morning.

Reddy, who is coming out after six months in jail will be arriving in the City, following the body warrant issued for him by the designated Special CBI court here. He will be produced before the court on Friday morning.

 

 

The CBI is expected to retain Reddy in Bangalore for sometime, by seeking custody for interrogation. Reddy is being brought to Bangalore by road, as the Hyderabad Special CBI court declined his plea to travel by air.

The warrant has been issued against him in connection with the case filed by the CBI related to illegal mining activity conducted by two companies, Associated Mining Company (AMC) and Deccan Mining Syndicate, owned jointly by him and his wife, Aruna Lakshmi. The FIR filed by CBI in October, 2011, names 21 accused including Reddy’s wife, former Mines and Geology minister V Muniyappa, IAS officer Shivalingamurthy and IFS officer Muthaiah.

Reddy is accused of using these two companies for transporting illegally-mined iron ore worth Rs 270 crore.

He resisted the eight-hour journey by road. Even though he petitioned the special court here to direct the CBI to shift him by air, and offered to pick up the tab for his escorts as well, the jail authorities apparently followed the directions of the CBI special court which in a memo asked them to simply follow the rules.

At around 5:30 pm, Gali wearing a blue emerged from the Chanchalguda jail, and wading through a sea of media persons said, “Satyameva jayathe” before boarding the special bus followed by an escort van.
