Bangalore, Nov 7, 2013 (DHNS): As many as 35 passengers had a miraculous escape as they alighted in time from a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation luxury bus which caught fire at Gorguntepalya on Thursday evening.
The ‘Vaibhav’ bus was on its way to the City from Hassan.
The bus reached Gorguntepalya on Tumkur Road at around 5.30 pm and the driver Yusuf Ali Sharif halted the bus at the stop.
The conductor Range Gowda noticed sparks coming out of the engine. Before he could come close to the engine, thick smoke and flames started coming out of it.
Gowda raised an alarm and asked the passengers to alight immediately, police said. Two fire tenders were pressed into service. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
But it is said that electric short circuit inside the engine triggered the fire, the Yeshwantpur police said.
