The mail was addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, the Home Minister and the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. Reportedly, one Shahid Khan had sent the threat.

The explosion, the email said, would rock busy locations such as restaurants, temples, buses or trains.

Khan also warned the authorities of planting bombs at public events. In addition to this, the email also mentioned that in order to avoid the blast from taking place, a ransom of 2.5 million dollars (over Rs 20 crore) should be paid.

Cops have registered a suo moto case in this regard, the report added.

Earlier in February, the Delhi Public School (DPS) in the national capital’s RK Puram area received a bomb threat on Friday, leading to authorities immediately evacuating the premises as a precautionary measure.

The threat was received via email that said the school would be blown up with a bomb, news agency ANI quoted Delhi Police as saying.

A few days after this, some schools in Chennai also received a bomb threat. The warning prompted police action, who soon reached the schools with bomb disposal squads.

Following the threat, students in these schools were sent back home with their parents, while anti-sabotage checks were conducted by the police. Among the schools which received the bomb threat mail were Chennai Public school in DAV Gopalapuram and St Mary’s School, Parrys.

In December last year, around 60 schools across Bengaluru city received an email claiming there were “explosive devices on the school grounds”.
