Bengaluru, June 27, 2023: Due to the increase in electricity rates to Rs.2.89 per unit in the state, the Karnataka Poultry Farmers & Breeders Association (KPFBA) has expressed opposition to the hike, stating that it is not feasible to operate many poultry processing centers and hatcheries.
KPFBA President Dr. Sushant B. Rai stated that the increase in electricity rates is an additional burden for poultry farmers who are already operating at minimal profits. It leads to higher costs for poultry centers and feed production, resulting in an increase in prices for consumers, causing problems. As a result, many facilities are relocating to neighboring states such as Hosur in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other border regions of Maharashtra, causing a loss in revenue for the state and a decrease in job opportunities.
KPFBA has urged the government to immediately reconsider the electricity rate hike, considering the significant interest and contribution of the poultry and fruit processing industry, as well as the overall welfare of the state.
