Karnataka SSLC results 2017: Pass percentage dips

Bengaluru, Nov 06, 2017 :  The academic results took a downward turn this year as the number of students in Karnataka clearing both the II Pre-University College or Class 12 and Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or Class 10 examinations came down as compared to last year.

 

Of the 7.64 lakh students who appeared for the SSLC exam, the results of which were declared on Friday, from 14,154 schools, just 73.26% managed to pass. This was down from 79.16% in 2016, and way lower than the 81.82% recorded in 2015.


Girls continued to outperform boys with 74.08% passing as opposed to 62.42% among boys. However, the pass percentages in both categories were significantly lower than those of last year, when girls recorded a pass percentage of 80.59 and boys 70.21.

Students who appeared for the exams in the English medium had the highest pass percentage, with 78.46% passing the exam, and those in Tamil medium came in at the bottom with 48.96%.

Except for students appearing for the Telugu and Tamil medium, pass percentages of all other language mediums were down by about 10% over the previous year, with Hindi medium seeing the biggest dip of around 20%.

Among the districts, Udupi had the highest pass percentage of 84.23, followed by Dakshina Kannada with 82.39. At the other end, Bidar came in at last with a pass percentage of 62.2, and Bagalkote finished just above with 64.53.

In the II PUC results, announced on Thursday, some trends seemed similar. Students in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts performed better than others, and Bidar finished at the bottom.

The dip in pass percentage this year was seen even in those exams that fell to 52.38 from 57.2 the year before.
