The minister, who is also BJP MLA from Chikkaballapura, added that more than 80 per cent of the Covid-19 tests conducted in Karnataka were RT-PCR. "Karnataka has tested the third highest number of samples in the entire country," he said.

Data shared by the minister shows that Karnataka has 3,338 swab collection centres and 252 Covid-19 testing labs.

The same data also shows that 81.45 per cent of all tests carried out in the state were RT-PCR. Of the four crore Covid-19 tests carried out in Karnataka till Tuesday evening, 3,26,68,585 were RT-PCR tests and the remaining 74,36,330 were Rapid-Antigen detection tests.

Referring to the possible third wave of Covid-19 infections, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said the state government is monitoring the situation closely.

Any decision related to lockdowns or night curfews will be taken as per the recommendations of the state’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on Covid-19, he added.

The minister also mentioned that there are 162 micro-containment zones under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) region. Asked about claims of shortage of Covid-19 vaccines in the state, minister K Sudhakar refuted such reports.

According to the state health department’s Covid-19 bulletin on Wednesday evening, Karnataka now has 22,851 active cases with Bengaluru accounting for 8,290 of those. The positivity rate in Karnataka stands at 1.09 per cent.Live TV
