Hoskote, Nov 09, 2023: Suspecting his wife of having an affair, a Karnataka police constable travelled 230 kilometers to her parents’ place and strangled her on Monday. Before committing the murder, the constable consumed insecticide and is in a critical condition. The couple were blessed with a baby just 11 days ago.
Kishore D, the 32-year-old constable, travelled from Chamarajanagar town to his wife’s parental residence near Hoskote, a distance of 230 kilometres. Before that, he made 150 calls to his wife, Pratibha, which went unanswered.
Prathiba, 24, gave birth to a boy 11 days before the murder.
Constable Kishore D, consumed insecticide before the murder and is in a critical condition in a hospital.
Police said Kishore will be taken into custody once he is discharged.
Kishore and Prathiba got married on November 13, 2022.
According to police, Kishore was suspicious that Prathiba was in relationships and often scrutinised her messages and call records. He inquired about every person who communicated with her and alleged that she had close ties with a couple of her male college friends.
On a Sunday evening, Kishore called up Prathiba and abused her. As Prathiba sobbed on phone, her mother intervened and disconnected the call.
She advised Prathiba that her newborn’s health would be adversely affected if she was in distress and suggested that she not answer Kishore’s calls. On Monday morning, Prathiba discovered that Kishore had called her 150 times and informed her parents, said the police.
The police report indicated that Kishore reached the residence of Prathiba’s parents around 11:30 am on Monday.
According to the FIR, Kishore first consumed insecticide and then locked the door of the room where Pratibha was with their newborn. He strangled Prathiba with a dupatta.
Pratibha’s mother grew suspicious and knocked on the door, but got no response for some time.
After nearly 15 minutes, Kishore came out shouting, "Kondu bitte avalna, kondu bitte (I killed her, I killed her)", and fled from there.
