Karnataka crosses 7 lakh COVID-19 positive cases

karnataka covid19Bengaluru, Oct 11, 2020: Total number of Covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka crossed 7 lakh mark after an addition of 10,517 new covid cases on Saturday. On the other hand 8,337 people recovered from the disease and were discharged from various hospitals in the State. 

So far 5,69,947 people have recovered from the disease.  As many as 1,20,929 active patients are taking treatment across the State among them 892 are in ICU. 102 covid patients lost their life and the total fatalities have increased to 9,891. The State conducted a record 1,12,770 covid tests yesterday and the total number of tests have gone up to 58,52,300.

Among the new cases Bengaluru reported 4,563 new cases followed by Belagavi 515, Mysuru 465, Hassan 455 and Chitradurga with 447 cases.

In Karnataka the Vidyagama scheme of the education department has come under criticism for allegedly spreading the Coronavirus. Vidyagama is a scheme launched by the Education Department to reach out to government school children during the pandemic for the benefit of the socially weaker section to continue learning and it has turned a model for the country.

In a communique, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said that the education department will get reports from across the state to know whether the children were tested positive because of the teachers. He further said that the government decided to temporarily stop the Vidyagama scheme in the state.  There should not be any doubt about the safety measure followed in the implementation of the programme he said. He further said that as many as 47 lakh children are benefited from the Vidyagama scheme and so far there is no confirmation about the children being infected through the scheme.
