Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Sep 10, 2022: The Karnataka government passed an order on Friday stating that all cases pending before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which was abolished by way of an order passed by the Karnataka high court last month, will now be transferred to the Lokayukta.

Earlier, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that his government would not appeal against the high court order abolishing the Anti-Corruption Bureau and will try to fulfill the promises made in their manifesto.

In its election manifesto, the BJP promised to get rid of the ACB and restore power to the Lokayukta.

Earlier in August, the Karnataka high court set aside the constitution of the ACB. While declaring that the ACB stood abolished with immediate effect, the court restored the power to investigate corruption cases in the state to the Karnataka Lokayukta police wing as it existed prior to the creation of the ACB.

The court also made it clear that all the pending inquiries, investigations, and cases being prosecuted by the ACB would be transferred to the Karnataka Lokayukta police wing for further action as per law.
