Karnataka introduces standardised fares for taxi services, including Ola, Uber

Bengaluru, Feb 05, 2024: The Karnataka government introduced standardised fares for online taxi services like Ola and Uber and also for other taxi services in the state. The move aims to address widespread complaints of overcharging in city taxi services and foster a uniform fare system.

 

According to the notification issued by the state transport department on Saturday, fares have been divided based on the cost of the vehicles. The rates include minimum fares and additional charges per kilometre.

The fares have been divided into three categories based on the price of the vehicles. The minimum fare for vehicles up to Rs 10 lakh is Rs 100 for 4 km, following which Rs 24 would be charged for every additional kilometre.

Similarly, for vehicles priced between Rs 10 to 15 lakh, the minimum fare is Rs 115 for 4 km and a fare of Rs 28 would be charged per additional kilometre.

For vehicles priced above Rs 15 lakh, a minimum fare of Rs 130 would be charged for 4 km, after which a fare of Rs 32 would be charged per additional kilometre.

The notification also includes guidelines about baggage, waiting rates and surcharge for night travel as well.

Passengers would be allowed to carry free baggage up to 120 kg, following which a charge of Rs 7 would be levied per additional 30 grams of baggage.

The notification stated that the waiting rate would be free for the first 5 minutes, after which a charge of Rs 1 would be charged per minute.

Taxis operating between 12 am and 6 am would incur a 10 per cent extra charge.

The notification further stated that GST toll charges can be collected from passengers, but no recovery can be made based on time.
