Bengaluru, Oct 26, 2023: Karnataka’s Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy has demanded the extension of the Gruha Jyoti scheme to the temples across the state. He plans to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss the possible extension of the scheme to temples.

The scheme, which provides free electricity, may be expanded to cover approximately 33,000 temples, which fall under the C-grade category, in Karnataka, pending approval from CM Siddaramaiah.

The extension of the Gruha Jyoti scheme to C-grade temples, if approved, would ensure that these temples receive free electricity, subject to the conditions associated with the scheme.

Speaking to India Today TV, Ramalinga Reddy said, "If this proposal is accepted, it will exclusively apply to C-grade temples, as A and B-grade temples are considered financially self-sufficient."

The categorisation of temples as ’A,’ ’B,’ and ’C’ is based on their annual revenue generation.

A-grade temples are those with an annual revenue exceeding Rs 25 lakh, making them the highest revenue generators among temples. B-grade temples fall within the revenue range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, indicating a moderately successful financial status.

Finally, C-grade temples are those with annual revenue of less than Rs 5 lakh, marking them as the temples with the lowest revenue generation.
