Thiruvananthapuram, June 22, 2022: The Kerala High Court granted anticipatory bail to Malayalam actor-producer Vijay Babu in an alleged rape case on Wednesday, June 22. Vijay Babu was booked for sexual assault after a woman, who is also an actor, accused him of sexually abusing her for movie roles.
The accused was asked to surrender for questioning before the investigating officer of the case on Monday, June 27.
Vijay Babu had left for Dubai at the end of April, around the same time a woman filed a case of sexual assault against him. The actor fled the country after Kochi Police registered a case against him. Vijay Babu returned to Kochi on June 1, after being away from the country for 39 days.
While granting the anticipatory bail plea, the Kerala HC asked him not to leave the state and to submit his passport.
The victim, in her complaint, had alleged that Vijay Babu had tortured her several times at his apartment in Ernakulam. He had also promised her better opportunities in the film industry.
“When I was incapable of saying yes or no consciously, he used my body as a tool for his pleasure. He has forced himself on me and even forced me into oral sex in a car against my will. I was in a state of shock, incapable of talking or responding,” the victim said on the Facebook post, where she revealed the incident.
“I was under his control and was scared to speak up because of the clout, influence and power he wielded in the film industry. It was a trap to use me,” said the victim.
However, Vijay Babu turned the tables on his accuser on April 26. The Mollywood icon went live on Facebook, alleging that it was the young woman who was torturing him and that he was the ’real victim’.
Vijay Babu’s mother, Maya Babu, filed a complaint on Saturday against the actress who filed a rape complaint against him. She said the actress’s complaint against her son was fake.
