Madurai, Jun 21, 2021: Two years ago, a fourteen-year-old girl went missing from Kerala’s Palakkad district. On June 18, she was found by the police in Madurai, Tamil Nadu with a four-month-old infant. The 16-year-old mother was living with a 22-year-old man who is yet to be found, the police said.
The couple had allegedly eloped in 2019. “He used to work with her mother earlier, doing catering in Palakkad. We are not sure if the family was aware that they were living together, more details have to be sought,” an official was quoted as saying in The News Minute.
The young girl is from Kozhinjampara in Palakkad, which is located at the Tamil Nadu border. After her parents alerted the police when she went missing, the Kozhinjampara police filed a missing person’s case. Despite investigation, she could not be traced back then.
After two years, the police received a tip-off that she was in Madurai only a few days ago. “She was found at the house of a Madurai man who used to work with her mother. His other relatives live near his house and she was being referred to as his wife. We are not sure if they are aware of her age. She is now the mother of a four-month-old baby,” John C, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Palakkad district, told The News Minute.While the girl and baby have been brought back to Kerala, the man is absconding, said the police. A search for him is underway.A case is to be registered against the man under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. DNA samples of the baby and the girl will also be collected for further investigation in the case.
