Kerala: Rationalist’’s house attacked for comment on temple treasure

KalanathanMalappuram (Kerala), Jul 4, 2011: The house of rationalist leader U Kalanathan was attacked by miscreants, apparently angered by his suggestion that the huge treasures discovered from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple should be used for public welfare.

According to police, four glass window panes of the house at Vallikunnu near here were broken in the stoning and a motorcycle parked in the compound was damaged in the attack unleashed by a group of unidentified people last night. however, no one in the house was injured in the incident.

Kalanathan, state secretary Kerala Yukthi Vadi Sanghom, had expressed his views on utilisation of the temple treasure while participating in TV debates.

Reacting to the attack on his house, he alleged this was a planned attack carried out by "communal elements."
