Kerala: Three including woman cop killed in accident at Ambalappuzha

Alappuzha, Jul 27, 2018 : Three including a Woman Civil Police Officer (WCPO) were killed when a car rammed into a lorry on NH 66 at Karoor near Ambalappuzha on the wee hours of Friday.

 

The deceased have been identified as Sreekala, 44, WCPO, Kottiyam police station, Kollam; Haseena, 30, and car driver Noufal, 28. Senior CPO of the station, Nizar, 42, sustained serious injuries, and has been admitted in a private hospital, Ernakulam.

Ambalappuzha CI Biju V Nair said the incident occurred at 5 am when the police team was bringing back Haseena, who had gone missing, back to the police station. "She had been missing since July 18. The Ankamaly police took her into custody from their jurisdiction and later handed over to the police team from Kottiyam. They were returning in a private car driven by Noufal. Sreekala and Hasseena died on the spot, while Noufal was rushed to Alappuzha Medical College hospital, but his life could not be saved," CI said.

The bodies were handed over to relatives after postmortem examination on Friday evening. The traffic on the National Highway was disrupted more than one hour due to the accident. Police suspect that the car driver might have fallen asleep during the driving. The lorry driver has been taken into custody.
