Thiruvanantapuram, Jan 04, 2022: The Kerala government on Tuesday, January 4, declared that stricter restrictions would be imposed in the state. This decision has been taken to curb the spread of Covid-19 and its variants.
The decision to impose stricter restrictions was taken after a high-level meeting was held on Tuesday.
Kerala recorded 29 cases of Omicron on Monday, January 3. The total cases in Kerala has risen to 181. As many as 42 people affected with Omicron were discharged on Monday after they recuperated.
As per the latest restrictions, the number of people attending functions in closed auditoriums has been limited to 75. Functions and events in open spaces can have a maximum of 150 people.
In regards to testing passengers, the Kerala government has decided that observation will be strengthened, irrespective of the country a person is arriving from.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan has urged everyone eligible to apply for financial aid due to covid deaths as soon as possible. He further instructed officials to not delay action on applications already received.
As of now, 80 percent of the people in the state have been administered the second dose of the Covid vaccine. Now, 15.43 lakh children are eligible to get the vaccine. Among this, 2 percent of the children are already vaccinated. The health department will also issue a treatment protocol for people under Covid treatment at their homes in the wake of the Omicron spread.
