Thiruvanantapuram, Dec 30, 2021: The Kerala government has decided to impose stricter restrictions throughout the state from Thursday, December 30, until January 2. This step has been taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19. A night curfew has also been imposed from 10 pm to 5 am.
During the period, only essential movements will be permitted. A self-declaration form should be carried if a person is travelling after 10 pm.
Kerala has reported 64 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus. The possibility of a massive increase, right out of the festival season, in January, is predicted.
State Police Chief Anil Kanth has urged the public to follow Covid protocol and other restrictions in place. The Director General of Police (DGP) said police personnel will be deployed at all public places, including beaches where there is a possibility of crowding.
The curfew will also apply to religious gatherings at churches as part of the New Year. The curfew also applies to political, social and religious gatherings and travel.
The government has further requested churches to host New Year mass with limited in-person participation and encourage more online participation.
Hotels, restaurants and bars will function at only 50% capacity and there will be no movie screening after 10 pm.
Some relaxations are in place for Sabarimala and Sivagiri pilgrims due to requests from the district collectors of Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram.
