Kerala logs over 30,000 Covid-19 cases, 115 deaths in 24 hours

Thiruvanantapuram, Aug 31, 2021: Kerala reported 30,203 new Covid-19 cases and 115 deaths in the past 24 hours. The test positivity rate (TPR), which had dipped to 16.74 per cent on Monday, rose to 18.86 per cent after testing of 1,60,152 samples in the last 24 hours.

With that, 3,15,52,681 samples have been tested in the state till now.

Since Monday, 20,687 people have recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries to 38,17,004 and the number of active cases to 2,18,892.

There are currently 5,45,393 people under surveillance in various districts.

Of these, 5,13,686 are in home or institutional quarantine and 31,707 in hospitals.
Night curfew in Kerala

The Kerala government has imposed night curfew from this week to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state. The curfew timing will be from 10 pm to 6 am.

While announcing the night curfew, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that Kerala has been witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases since the lockdown was relaxed. He added that the pandemic was "further aggravated by the Onam rush".
