Malappuram, May 30, 2024: A 37-year-old woman from Malappuram gave birth on a KSRTC bus on Wednesday afternoon while travelling from Thrissur to Thottilpalam in Kozhikode. The incident occurred when the bus, passing through Peramangalam, saw the woman go into advanced labour.
As the bus crossed Peramangalam in Thrissur district, the woman began experiencing severe labour pains. In response, the quick-thinking bus driver immediately changed route and headed towards Amala Hospital. The bus staff informed the hospital about the imminent delivery.
By then, the woman was in the advanced stage of labour.
Upon reaching the hospital, the passengers were swiftly deboarded, allowing doctors and nurses to attend to the woman.
She gave birth to a healthy baby girl inside the bus, thanks to the timely assistance of both the bus staff and the health workers at Amala Hospital.
A video from the spot showed the KSRTC bus staff and the medical team working in coordination to ensure that the woman gets the necessary medical aid and that she is able to give birth safely despite the unconventional circumstances.
The mother and her newborn were quickly transferred to the hospital, where officials confirmed that both are in good health.
