In September 2020, 20-year-old Siddique died and it was deemed to be a case of suicide. An attempt was made to complete his last rites immediately; however, the police arrived on getting a tip-off and registered an FIR after noticing injury marks on his neck.

The mother and sister of the deceased, the only witnesses, claimed it was a case of suicide.

Now, a year later, 43-year-old Nadira confessed to murdering her son during police interrogation.

During interrogation, Nadira said that her son Siddique used to beat her and her daughter up under the influence of drugs. The family relied on Nadira’s income and her son used to cause trouble daily, she said.

On September 20, 2020, he allegedly tried to attack his sister. Nadira stepped in and this resulted in her strangling her son to death.

At first, Vizhinjam police confirmed that no one other than Nadira and her daughter were at the house on the day of the incident. After this was confirmed, Nadira was arrested.

The post-mortem report confirmed that Siddique died as a result of strangling.
