New Delhi, Oct 07, 2021: The Supreme Court has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a detailed status report in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case by Friday. Eight people, including four farmers, died in the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday.
The court asked the state government to file a detailed report on all aspects of the case including the deceased, whether an FIR is filed, who all have been arrested and on the inquiry panel.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana told the counsel appearing for Uttar Pradesh to explain this in the status report.
The Supreme Court has also directed the state government to extend all possible medical help to the mother of deceased farmer Lovepreet Singh. She fell ill after hearing about her son’s death.
The counsel told the bench, also comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, that a judicial commission has been constituted to inquire into the incident and the state would file a status report in the matter.
An FIR under section 302 of IPC (murder) has been registered against the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra’s son Ashish Misra and others in the incident in Tikonia police station but no arrest has been made so far.On Sunday, the farmers had gathered at the sports ground of the Maharaja Agrasen Inter-College to peacefully protest against the Centre’s three farm laws. They had planned to show black flags to the Union minister Ajay Misra and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who were there to attend an event.As the farmers went about their protest, Ashish Misra’s car allegedly ran them over at high speed, killing four farmers on the spot. Later, violence broke out at the spot in Lakhimpur Kheri, leading to four more deaths.
