Islamabad, Nov 24, 2022: Lieutenant General Asim Munir was chosen as Pakistan’s new Army chief on Thursday. Munir had served in Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
He will succeed General Qamar Javed Bajwa, whose term is scheduled to end on November 29. Bajwa’s retirement comes after a three-year extension. He had ruled out seeking another extension.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza was picked as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
